Avengers: Thor & Loki

This is the 3rd & 4th installment of the Avengers hats I made. I thought it only appropriate to post Thor and Loki together. I really love how both of these hats turned out. I’m very pleased with them. I can’t wait to see photos of these on their new owners heads.

Materials Needed:
I hook (5.5mm) — use this hook unless otherwise specified
G hook (4.00mm)
Yarn needle
Stitch markers
Scissors
Worsted weight yarn

Techniques & Stitches Used:
Magic circle (Tutorials can be found on YouTube)
ch (chain)
sl st (slip stitch)
sc (single crochet)
hdc (half double crochet)
dc (double crochet)
rep (repeat)
st (stitch)
rnd (round)

Thor Hat

For the body of the hat I used the Lael Viking Hat pattern from Mamachee Patterns. The pattern I created for the wings is below.

Thor Wings (make 2):
*The wings are made up of 9 parts which are stitched together at the end.

Part 1 — begin with ch 8
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across, ch 1, turn (7 sc)
Row 2: sc in each across, ch 1, turn (7 sc)
-the next row is a little hard to explain, so I have pictures below.
Row 3: sl st into both the 1st original ch and 1st sc from row 2, repeat in each st across (7 sl st)

(By the way… I’m left handed so these pictures will look backwards to some.)
insert hook into ch
insert hook into 1st sc of row 2
sl st through both the sc and the ch
Several slip stitches have been done in this picture.

Follow the instructions for Part 1 for the remaining parts, except begin with specified chain number.
Part 2 — begin with ch 10
Part 3 — begin with ch 12
Part 4 — begin with ch 14
Part 5 — begin with ch 16
Part 6 — begin with ch 18
Part 7 — begin with ch 20
Part 8 — begin with ch 20
Part 9 — begin with ch 18

Assembly:
-Using yarn needle, stitch each part together beginning with part 1 and 2, then 2 and 3, 3 and 4, etc.
*When stitching together stitch the following number of stitches together…
Part 1 & 2 = stitch 5 st together
Part 2 & 3 = stitch 7 st
Part 3 & 4 = stitch 9 st
Part 4 & 5 = stitch 11 st
Part 5 & 6 = stitch 13 st
Part 6 & 7 = stitch 15 st
Part 7 & 8 = stitch 15 st
Part 8 & 9 = stitch 15 st
Sew in loose ends and then stitch to side of hat, using picture as reference.

Leave long enough tail to stitch to hat

-Lightly stuff horn. (You may want to stuff the horns after you crochet every couple of rows. This will make it easier to stuff the tip of the horns.)
-Using your long tail at the top of your horn, stitch all the way to the bottom and then pull tight. This will cause the horn to curl. Once you  have the desired curl, tie a knot so it doesn’t come loose.

Assembly:
-Using the yarn tail at the bottom of each horn, attach them to the hat using the picture as a reference.
