Avengers: Captain America
So here is the first installment of five..Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Captain America!
The hat itself is just a simple half double crochet beanie, and then I found this pattern for the letter A. I just adjusted the pattern to make it smaller.
I couldn’t find a pattern for the wings that I loved so I made one up. I was very excited with how they turned out. Below is the FREE pattern.
Materials Needed:
G6 (4.00mm) Hook
Yarn needle
Worsted weight yarn in white (I used Red Heart.)
Techniques & Stitches Used:
ch (chain)
sl st (slip stitch)
sc (single crochet)
dc (double crochet)
st (stitch)
Note(s):
There are three parts to the wings that you make separately and then stitch together.
Part #1
ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 6 st, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 6 st, sc in last, sl st in last, tie off & sew in ends
Part #2
ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 6 st, tie off
Leave enough tail to stitch together.
Part #3
ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 4 st, tie off
Leave enough tail to stitch together.
Assembly (refer to pictures):
-Begin by stitching Part #2 to #1, leaving 3 stitches unstitched at the tip of the feather.
-Next stitch Part #3 to #1 and #2, leaving 2 stitches unstitched at the tip of the feather.
-Stitch to the side of the hat
[Repeat instructions for 2nd wing.]
And DONE! You can now save the world.
I absolutely adore this hat! Do you, by any chance, have a picture that shows the side of the hat, so I can see where / how you sewed the wings to the hat? That would sure help me out A lot!!!! Thank you for sharing your pattern!!!
I’m sorry for the delayed response! I will look to see if I have a picture of the side of the hat, but I don’t think I do. I hope you were able to complete it!
What a marvelous hat! I will put it on my list of things to do!
I love this hat! Do you have the pattern for the simple half double crochet beanie? I can’t find one that looks as nice as this one!
I have posted several free patterns on my site that include the instructions for the basic half-double crochet beanie. I typically use worsted weight yarn and an I hook and then start with 8 hdc and then increase by 8 stitches each round until I get the size I want.
